Wilderness First Aid

Wilderness first aid is needed for activities in remote areas such as hiking, climbing, camping, sailing, hunting, birding or snowmobiling. Anyone living, working, traveling, or just enjoying the wilderness should be prepared to manage medical emergencies. A definition of “wilderness” is a location that is 1 or more hours away from definitive medical care. Included would be remote communities, developing countries and urban areas after a disaster. Also included would be remote areas where outdoor occupations are conducted (farming, mining, commercial fishing, forestry and some construction sites).

Wilderness first aid is the immediate care given to an injured or suddenly ill person. It does not take the place of definitive medical care. It consists only of giving assistance until a more advanced level of medical care is obtained or until the chance for recovery without medical care is apparent.

Wilderness first aid has a distinct focus because:

Designed for those who work or travel in remote locations, this comprehensive program will teach you what to look for and what to do in the event of an emergency, and direct you to the most appropriate type of care. We offer three separate courses for you to choose from: Basic Level (8 HR), Standard Level (16HR), and Advanced Level (32HR). At the end of each course students will have to pass a written test and upon successful completion the student will receive a three (3) year certification card. This program meets the American Camp Association (ACA) guidelines.

Babysitting Safety Training

The Child and Babysitting Safety program is a community education program that covers child safety and basic care techniques for infants and children. CABS stresses the priority to keep you and the children you care for safe. Babysitting is not just “watching” the children, but being responsible for their safety and well being. When you are caring for a child, you are taking care of a parent(s) most prized possession. Everything in their home and your own home can be replaced— everything, that is, except a child.

CPR Training For Parents

CPR training for parents is essential. The life-saving procedure can be used in an emergency situation where someone has stopped breathing and their heart doesn't beat anymore, or it could also help to save you from choking on food particles if there are any lodged between your teeth that will not go away with spitting out excess saliva (which does nothing). What's more important now than ever before? Getting this skill set so we're prepared!

Infant CPR classes for new parents

It can be challenging to learn how to CPR for the first time but luckily we offer infant classes. These will help parents understand what's happening in an emergency situation so that your baby is less stressed and more likely have a good outcome if it were ever needed!

CPR for friends and family

It's no secret that people are prone to emergencies, and your friends can also be at risk. Here is how you could help them in the event of an emergency: The "CPR for Friends & Family" lesson plan will teach those close with what they need so when faced with a sudden cardiac arrest it won’t feel terrifying or unfamiliar because we have all been trained on basic life saving skills!
